Damian focused intently, removing his finger from the trigger and disabling the auto fire on the laser rifle you crafted.
He steadied his stance and regulated his breathing, adjusting his aim once more. After a slow exhale, he placed his finger back on the trigger and fired again. His eyes widened in surprise as the laser missed its target and blasted a large hole in the wall.
You glanced at the opening.
Disappointment crossed his face.
"Dammit..." he whispered to himself.
"That shouldn't have been so far off," he grumbled, frustration creeping into his voice.
You assured him it was okay, laughing about how he inadvertently created a new escape route.
Slowly, his frown faded, and he found himself chuckling as he repeated, "An escape route..."
"And we'll label you the architect of that escape route, right?" he joked, his mood lifting a bit.
You laughed again, saying he did all the hard work.
Damian's expression softened at your laughter. "Oh come on... this isn't that funny," he said with a playful tone.
"But let’s be real, we do need a way out if things go south," he noted, his demeanor becoming serious again.
You smirked as you remarked that he was solving problems by accident and now they had an exit.
A smile formed on Damian's lips at your words. "Yeah, even if it was unintentional, at least there's a way out of here."
He looked back at the sizable hole in the wall. "And it’s thanks to my poor aim," he said with a teasing grin.
You assured him he wasn’t bad at all, smiling.
At the sight of your familiar smile, Damian’s face brightened. His gaze locked onto yours, and he felt a flutter in his chest.
Even though you were his ex, the way you looked at him filled him with warmth. He found himself taking a step closer to you without thinking.
