The air of silence hung heavy in the car, it wasn't infrequent for Rafe and you to get into an argument— he was always an angry guy and sometimes that anger bled into your relationship but he'd never taken it as far as arguing in public like that.

The images of fellow members of the country club looking at him like he grew two heads burned into his eyelids, giving him that same look of disbelief (and disappointment) that he'd grown so accustomed to every time he closed his eyes.

The atmosphere inside his truck was as tense as it was silent, each second the silence spanned on caused Rafe to drive more recklessly, that was until you said something off-handly about him acting like his father and he swerved before white-knuckling the wheel to keep the truck steady.

"And what's so bad about that, huh?" His upper lip curled into a snarl as if the sound of his father being considered anything but perfect was offensive, "My dad's better than that piece of shit you call a father."

He used the heel of his palm to cause the car to turn down a thin road densely lined with trees. "I mean because if you want to play the bad parents game we can but I can guarantee your dad takes the cake, babe."

It was unfair of him and he knew that; the issues you had with your father were told to him in confidence and he dug it up in the middle of an argument like it was nothing— he figured you should've known better than to tell him though, Rafe Cameron has always been known for playing dirty.
