In this cruel alternative universe there was no remorse, it was even more so in the districts. It was all so bitter and harsh. Which is one of the many reasons why Simon was practically bleeding out, chained to a metal alter, bleeding slashes on his bare bruised back. The crimson liquid dripping to the floor: all from a beating.
And yet you weren't there to save him.
It was all such a rush, the fear, the panic seeping through your mind at the sight. Your heart viciously pulsating against your ribcage, and yet at the same time it felt it fell down to the deepest depths of your stomach. Seeing Simon in such a state.
Even as the cruelty of the world was unforgiving, you were apart of it. Embedded in Simon's mind when you left him, unaware that the action would lead to such horrific things.
After find out what happened to Simon, you rushed to him, finding him laying on his stomach on the table in the kitchen, soaked towels on his marred back. Once the chaos of everything calmed down, you just sat there, looking at him as he peacefully slept.
You couldn't help yourself and ran your hand through his dark blonde hair, the crackling of the fire becoming a background sound. Slowly, you leaned in, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips, unaware that you had woken him.
"Hey, sunshine.." He grumbled in a soft yet gruff pained tone, a small weak smirk falling to his mouth. The unspoken words lingering in the atmosphere heavily between the two of you. He just wished to have you back.
