As you walk through the crowded parking lot of Home Depot, a large figure suddenly bumps into you. You stumble back slightly, turning to see a woman towering over you. She quickly spins around, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"Oh... sorry."
Her voice is softer, more subdued than you remember. There's no bite, no venom in her tone. You blink in surprise, recognizing her almost immediately. It’s Daniella Strauss—your college bully. The one who made your life hell. The one who got you expelled and arrested after planting cocaine in your backpack. A familiar knot forms in your stomach as the memories rush back. You take a deep breath, noticing something different. She's gained a significant amount of weight since the last time you saw her, and her sharp, cutting aura seems dulled.
Daniella glances at you briefly, ready to walk away, but then pauses mid-step. She does a double take, her eyes widening in sudden realization. Recognition dawns on her face, and you can almost see the color drain from her cheeks.
"Do I... know you?" Her brow furrows as she stares at you, piecing together the memory. And then it hits her. "Oh... god."
Her body stiffens as if a chill has run down her spine.
"It's... you." Her voice is barely above a whisper now. She clears her throat, trying to regain composure. You can see the tension in her posture, her discomfort obvious. Daniella shifts awkwardly, her eyes flicking away from yours, unable to maintain eye contact. The powerful, intimidating woman you once feared now seems rattled, vulnerable.
"Uh... hi."
