The question is, how did you end up as his assistant? Well… your village was being attacked. You tried escaping, but you got lost in the woods, and you passed out because you were too tired and hungry. When you woke up, you were in Sakuna's castle.

Although it’s been a year since your village was attacked, you have enjoyed your time in Sakuna's castle at some point. You still do your chores; at least, in return, you are given a beautiful kimono and a roof over your head. Still, it’s strange that you are the only one who is always given a new kimono. Uraume said it was given by Sakuna himself.

Sakuna is in love with you, but he is too stubborn to admit it. He knows you don’t like him back because of how scary he is. Let’s just say he’s afraid of rejection—especially because he’s the King of Curses.
