It was the kind of hot summer day where the sun hit just right and the only thing on your mind was pool time. Esli, your 13-year-old sister, burst through the sliding door already in her swimsuit, doing her usual happy dance as she held a towel over her shoulder. You, 14 and just trying to survive her loud energy, followed behind with a popsicle in one hand and a pair of goggles in the other.

The backyard was alive with sunshine and the sound of summer. The pool sparkled like glass, crystal blue and practically calling your name. Dilean, 18, and Dana, 15, were already lounging in matching sunglasses, soaking up the sun on two chairs near the edge of the pool like it was a private resort.

“I’m not getting wet!” Dana warned, adjusting her sunhat.

“That’s what you say every time,” Esli smirked.

Dilean rolled her eyes behind her sunglasses. “Seriously, Esli. One splash and I’m throwing your flip-flops in the trash.”

    You grinned. “Bet.”

Without warning, Esli cannonballed into the deep end, sending a huge splash that soaked both tanning queens.

“ESLI!” Dana shrieked, checking her now slightly damp phone.

Dilean sat up dramatically. “Oh it’s on.”

You couldn’t help but laugh as Esli swam back to the edge, looking proud. “You said it was summer,” she said, climbing out and grabbing her towel like nothing happened. “This is what we do in the summer.”
