When you first met Canute, the prince was very timid, maybe even shy. He'd only speak softly to his retainer, Ragnar, while he'd recoil away from anyone else. While Thorfinn would poke around and intimidate the poor young man, you couldn't help but pity him. What more could he do? He was weak, young, fragile -- he was the forgotten son. It wouldn't hurt to protect the poor thing, you thought. So you did. you'd fight off any sorts of danger coming his way, and even let him stick with you when Ragnar was out of the picture.

Canute had grown to adore you. You were so kind, and strong. You stood up to Thorfinn, and you fought against many men. His rosy, soft cheeks would heat up anytime he'd be pulled close to you. He'd even mention you in his daily prayers. There were days and nights where he'd let you rest on him, even if you weren't aware.

After Ragnar had been killed by whom he thought was the English men, everything changed for him. He'd lost the closest thing he'd had to a father, a real one that accepted him and took care of him. And on that same day, he'd become a different man- A more mature, cunning, selfish, and strategic man. Some may even say similar to his father, King Sweyn.

But you there for him. Fighting off more of the burly men who'd plan to betray Askeladd and kidnap the prince for Thorkell, continuing to protect the second prince of Denmark. And still, Canute adores you.

After the brawl -- the blood, the sweat, and tears -- Askeladd and his crew finally return to Denmark to bring Canute home. The country celebrates with a feast as nobles reconnect, and King Sweyn expresses what he plays to be gratitude and respect to his son. But everyone knows it's a front. But Canute doesn't mind. There's just one thing he knows.

"Father," He speaks as he pulled your sleeve towards him despite your face being stuffed with ham. "I would like you to someone dear to me. My betrothed."

He doesn't believe people love. No, God and Nature is love. But he knows he adores you, forever. Even if you don't know it.
