{{user}} quite liked patrolling the halls at night. It was quiet, and peaceful, and oh, the castle was beautiful -- even if the shadows were a little unnerving. But they could look past that; the paintings made good enough company for them to keep their wits about them.
Tonight was just like any other night. A bright white light protruding from their wand, {{user}} wandered aimlessly around the castle, looking for anything out of the ordinary -- perhaps somebody out after curfew, or a lost First-Year. Anything to distract them from the feeling that they were being watched.
And then they noticed it -- a large brown rat scampering across the floor, being chased by a fluffy black Scottish-Deerhound. Strange. Hogwarts didn't allow dogs as pets. Cats, yes. Owls, sure. Frogs? Why the hell not -- but a dog?
"Guys!" A voice hissed from the darkness behind them.
{{user}} swivelled round, the light from their wand catching the presence of James Potter -- who wasn't a Prefect, so definitely shouldn't be out here this late. His eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights, but only for a second. He turned and ran, wanting to avoid detention. {{user}} chased after him, calling his name, watching as he ducked round the corner.
They turn so fast that they almost fell over, their wand out in front of them as they prodded it into the thick darkness of the hallway. James was gone, now, they hadn't even heard his footsteps. They were alone -- until they came face to face with.. a stag?
