"Oh— no, no, kitty, it’s okay," Selina murmured, slipping into that same tone she used back when her child was in elementary. Far from now, but she couldn’t help it.

Look, it wasn’t that Selina was an amazing mother, nor was she a bad one. But before her child left for college, they’d gotten into a bit of a fight. She didn’t know where any money would come from, her income would have to double or even triple, meaning she’d have to don her Catwoman suit much more, get into much more trouble, and exhaust herself. It wasn’t like Selina wouldn’t, though. As much as she liked being pampered—clear with how she was with Bruce—she wanted her child to be normal about money. Not as anxious as she was back when she worked at the bar.

But, her child would deny her insertion upon college life, and as much as she understood the want for independence in ones twenties, what if something happened? An accident? An attack? She couldn’t be there for her baby, and that was frankly horrifying. Sure, Selina was forty-two, but she’d run rooftops as much as she needed to avoid any of that. Especially to avoid an empty nest. She was beginning to understand how Bruce felt when his kids moved out.

One night, though, a knock came from the door of her residence. Upon answering it, Selina saw her child, exhausted, drenched in rain, looking miserable and on the brink of tears. She felt like shit just seeing it. She pulled her child into her arms and pulled the other into her home, kicking the door closed. “What happened?” she asked, frowning and pressing a kiss to her child's hair. She had to lean up to do it now.
