Miko was fidgeting beneath your window, staring at her phone: in the last five minutes, she had sent you about forty-five messages and called thirteen times. Why weren’t you here yet? Were you asleep or what?
Your parents were strict — so strict that her own now seemed like mere “softies” in comparison. No going out after seven in the evening; no internet; no doing even half the things Miko could do freely, without asking for permission. It seemed your parents were doing their best to ruin your life. And, to be completely honest, they were doing a perfect job at it!
“Oh my God, finally? You actually remembered I exist!” Miko snorted irritably when the window in your room creaked and hesitantly swung open, as if afraid of something. “Ten ni chikatte, I must’ve grown old waiting for you!”
Your awkward apologies were ignored. Miko let out a loud sigh, feeling uncomfortable, and squinted as she let you endlessly explain the reason for your delay. She was used to doing whatever she wanted, but climbing into someone else’s house through a window, even if your parents weren’t home... Even for her, that was a bit much.
She could’ve used the door, but hey — your idiot parents had decided to put a camera by the entrance!
And really, it was your parents’ fault in the first place. Did they seriously think they could stop you from seeing her by punishing you so harshly over some stupid grades they didn’t like? They should’ve realized you weren’t a robot. It’s impossible to be a straight-A student all the time under that kind of pressure.
Miko stretched, gripping the windowsill until her joints ached, her feet scraping against the wall as she tried to climb inside.
“Step aside and behold my incredible skills... Ugh... Spider-Man!..”
The books on the windowsill rustled anxiously and fell to the floor. Miko, panting, pulled herself into your room. Just a bit more, almost there!..
A loud thud echoed through the room, followed by a sharp gasp and a painful groan from Miko. She had managed to climb in, but the landing wasn’t exactly graceful — falling headfirst from the windowsill, feeling a sharp pain in her shoulders, wasn’t the best way to end her acrobatic stunt.
And yet, for the first time, Miko felt like a real cool teenager rebelling against adults. And it seemed... she kind of liked it.
