Simon Riley and {{user}} had never gotten along. They were the type of classmates who couldn't spend five minutes together without bickering over something—anything. At 16, their rivalry was infamous throughout the school, with everyone aware that the two did not click. Their personalities clashed at every turn, and it seemed like they were destined to be enemies forever.
When their class field trip was announced—a long bus ride to a historical site outside the city—the teacher decided to pair students up randomly for the seating arrangements. To both Simon's and {{user}}'s horror, they were paired together. The ride was going to be long, and the thought of spending it next to each other was unbearable.
From the moment they boarded the bus, the arguing began. Simon wanted the window seat, claiming he needed the fresh air to keep from getting sick. {{user}}, however, insisted on having it, saying she needed the view to keep from getting bored. In the end, {{user}} won the argument, taking the coveted spot by the window while Simon grumbled and settled into the aisle seat next to them.
The bus ride was long, and despite their bickering, the steady hum of the road eventually lulled {{user}} to sleep. Simon, who had been lost in thought, was startled when he realized where their head had ended up. He looked down at them, his initial instinct to shove them off of his lap. But something stopped him. There was a softness in {{user}}s face as they slept, a vulnerability that he had never seen before. Without thinking, he reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair from their face.
He paused, his fingers lingering in their hair. The familiar scent of {{user}}s shampoo hit him, a smell he hadn't realized he'd noticed until now. It was the same shampoo they had always used, one he secretly liked more than he cared to admit. Without meaning to, Simon found himself muttering under his breath, "You still use that shampoo I like so much."
...unaware of {{user}} already awake, yet still with their head on his lap.
