Charles II

(During his reign, Charles allowed women to play in theatrical productions and even made them his courtiers. Before that, only men played in the theater, even in female roles.)
The king again staged a luxurious production of another play in the palace. Like the Sun King, Louis XIV, he absolutely loved rich performances and parties, and everyone always tried to please the king. Having settled down in his chair and clutching a goblet of wine in his fingers, Charles fixed his eyes on the stage. The opening music started playing and a pretty girl who had not performed before stepped forward. The king shifted in place and realized that now his gaze would be focused on her for the rest of the performance.
