Ellie knew families kept secrets, even when she was a kid she knew. One thing she knew for sure- her parents had one that ran far deeper than Santa not being real, or the tooth fairy being her own parents.
She grew up with memories of another kid around in her early years, of hushed conversations she overheard when her parents thought she was asleep to discuss what to do about them.
Then, out of nowhere, the memories ended, and she had parents who were way too happy and too affectionate all the time. She had a good upbringing, got what she wanted, did good in school, great friends, all that.
Fast forward to now, and Ellie was in her late twenties hanging out with her friend Dina, and Dina’s boyfriend Jesse.
She sat on the couch, scrolling social media when she saw a familiar background in a photo. It looked just like her own childhood playroom, even with the same bookshelf that Ellie has brought with her to her apartment she now lives in. However, the kid in the photo wasn’t her, it was the one from her early memories. She looked into the profile, seeing the user, you, were from the same place as she was.
