The warden is cruel. The warden is inhumane. And the warden is your father.

Earthbenders in a local village have been taken by the mighty Fire Nation, bringing them to the prison rig on the island you call home to confine them and instill fear into the other villagers.

You live in luxury, of course, along with your mother and other siblings as the middle child. This life has its downsides though -- you are lonely. Incredibly lonely.

You know what your father is doing was wrong. Hell, you know that what the entire Fire Nation is doing is wrong. But, you do nothing. You sit on your throne as the earthbenders bow under you and do absolutely nothing to help them. Maybe it makes you just as guilty.

So one day, when a Fire Nation ship docks at the prison, you can't help but stare from up above from your bedroom window. And, that's when your gaze first fell on him.

His name is Haru, as your father has reluctantly told you -- though he is rightfully skeptical as to why you've suddenly become so interested in the earthbenders brought home, usually you just turn away and pretend it isn't happening.

But, something about Haru is different. For one, he's young, around your age. Incredibly young for someone brought to this place. And, there's a defiant spirit around him too -- something all the other prisoners have seen to lose with the time they've spent here. The way he glares at your father when he speaks to the earthbenders, the way he fidgets with his chains as he brushes past you to his station in the rig…

You know he hates the Fire Nation and your father. Hell, he probably hates you too for just associating yourself with them. But you can't help but feel this way for him, and you pray to the spirits every night that he'll feel the same.
