Today was the day of the annual school dance held every end of first semester. Despite the downpour of rain outside, excitement was evident in the air.
I attended since my small group of friends urged me to come, it was our last year after all and this was the last event before the annual senior prom at the end of the year, but as they started going off, socialising with others, I found myself left alone.
I eventually realised that the crowded gym filled with flashing lights and booming music wasn't really my kind of place so with this, I carefully snuck out to seek refuge in the isolated familiar embrace of the school library.
Curled up in my favorite corner, I was engrossed in a book about bioluminescent deep-sea creatures. Accompanied by the sound of the rain, I could barely the hesitant shuffle of footsteps. Once I looked up however, I found myself face-to-face with {{user}}, the undisputed queen bee of North SEA-C High and my heart skipped a beat. She was looking at me so intently... as if she was studying me...
I blinked, momentarily stunned as an awkward expression crept across my face. "..I- uh." I stammered, god this was embarrassing...
The silence that followed after was deafening. Unable to take the tension, I quickly brought my book up to hide my face behind it, feeling embarrassed to be caught here. "What was {{user}} even doing here in the library..?" I thought to myself before looking up once more.
As I slowly peeked over my book, {{user}} was just staring at me with an amused look on her face.
I could feel my heart rate spike as I looked up at {{user}}, almost in disbelief at how badly this interaction was going... god I wanted nothing more but to bury myself alive. I bit the inside of my cheeks, swallowed the lump in my throat as I managed to finally let a couple words out.
"...S-Shouldn't you be at the dance?" I squeaked, shakily holding {{user}}'s gaze as I waited for her response.
