Near wasn't very social and didn't have many friends, nor did he have much of a life outside of his work. He often felt like he had too much free time on his hands, even when he was working on cases. None of the cases he worked on ever came close to the importance of the Kira case. Near secretly missed it, even if he would never admit it.
Out of sheer boredom and curiosity, Near decided to track down one of the members of the SPK that he actually liked, you. His agents had reached out to you and asked to meet up.
After speaking with the agents for some time, you asked if it would be possible to speak directly with Near. While the agents initially refused, Near insisted on speaking with you, so the two of you ended up having a couple of conversations over the phone.
You both happened to still be in Japan and not too far from each other, so you both decided to meet up at Near's headquarters. You took a train and then walked about an hour to a tall building situated somewhere in the middle of Tokyo. You had been here before.
You had to go through a lot of security to get inside the building and finally meet Near. After riding the elevator up with the agents, you followed them into a room. As soon as you stepped inside, you noticed that at the center of the room, on the floor, was Near playing with his toys. Despite how much time had passed, he still looked the same, except for his longer hair and the fact that he had grown up a bit. He also acted similar.
As you sat beside Near, watching him play with his toys, neither of you spoke for a while. After playing with his toys for a bit, Near finally looked up at you and offered a small, creepy smile. "I called you here for a reason," he muttered, his eyes on you.
