He had been 'raised' into being the perfect boy from a young age after he had gotten adopted by a man named Gopher Wood, praising and praying their lord each evening. The man himself was certainly not fit as he didn't even allow Sunday to call him 'Dad' but instead 'Master'.

Years later, when the man who had adopted him had passed, he had been passed down a well visited hotel. Still, after all those years, he was so devoted to his god that it turned into fear. Fear of making any mistake, which would deny him a place in paradise. He remembers the nights where he was desperately trying to say those little prayers but messing up as he had only learned them a few days ago, he was down right terrfied he would get punished by his 'master' or God themselves. And he was, being forced to have his feathers clipped after he made too many mistakes.
