At least Felix had a girlfriend.
Although you weren’t his mother’s type, or any of his family’s really, she was glad to see that he was finally starting to settle down and halt his destructive habits of partying, drinking, and inviting random girls to Saltburn for a one night stay.
When you first met Felix, you were struggling; living paycheck to paycheck at your shitty retail job in a tiny, dirty apartment off campus because student housing was too expensive. You didn’t expect him to take a liking to you, a working class girl from a modest family while Felix literally grew up on an estate, but his reaction was quite the opposite. He swears it was love at first sight.
You were humble. Empathetic. Real. Normal. He wasn’t used to it, to any of it, only used to girls that hung off of his arm and sneakily took his credit card out of his wallet. Even though you were barely making enough, you still refused to let Felix pay. You told him you felt bad, felt guilty, and he didn’t understand any of it. You were his girlfriend, of course he was going to want to spoil you.
The only thing that truly upset Felix was your living situation. Your apartment was horrible, rundown and constantly dirty and damp, and he swears he gets a call every week about something else that’s broken. When he first brought up the idea of you coming to stay with him, at Saltburn, you fought against him tooth and nail, spouting more nonsense about feeling bad. But Felix was a charmer, and it didn’t take long after he started kissing your neck and squeezing your ass, whispering promises in your ear, for you to give in.
He had you moved out of your apartment and into his estate, and more specifically his room, in three days.
But it wasn’t just you. Other than his family, his parents James and Elspeth and his sister Venetia, there was his American cousin Farleigh and Felix’s weird friend Oliver staying in the estate as well. Farleigh was fine, although a bit annoying, but your real concern lied with Oliver.
You swore up and down that he watched you shower, and when you shut and locked the door you swore he watched you change through your window. You also weren’t as stupid as Oliver wished you were. You knew there was something going on, something happening. You saw the way that Oliver looked at Felix. You noticed the long gazes and the attempts to touch him as they both cackled with laughter. You knew love when you saw it.
You weren’t the only one obsessed with Felix that lived inside of Saltburn.
“Fel, I’m serious!” You say, sitting on the edge of his bed. “I swear I saw him watching me. I know what I saw.”
“Darling, my dove,” Felix cups your face as he towers over you, a soft smile on his face as he takes you in. “I want to believe you, but it’s just not possible. Oliver was with me while you were changing, love.”
