His footsteps echoed with a steady but cautious rhythm. Ever since the accident years ago, Jeno had grown used to focusing on just one side of the world, his left ear, the one now faithfully accompanied by a hearing aid. To him, sounds often came uneven, incomplete. But ever since his encounter with that girl, the one who couldn't see at all... Jeno felt there was something heavier than simply losing half of his hearing.

He remembered their first meeting vividly. A brief collision on the sidewalk that turned everything upside down. His hearing aid had fallen, stepped on, almost broken. At that moment, he was too busy picking it up, inspecting the fragile device that tethered him to the world, that he never truly noticed or rather, never really heard the girl's apology. Her white cane tapping lightly as she walked away lingered faintly in his memory.

Their second meeting was carved deeper into him. She had almost been hit by a car at the crosswalk, and Jeno, rushing to pull her back to safety, ended up scolding her in a sharp voice. He regretted it ever since.. how could he speak so harshly to someone who couldn't even see? But perhaps that was just his way of protecting himself, snapping, when in truth he was afraid.

The days after that, he found himself following her steps. From a distance, carrying a weight he couldn't explain. Guilt mixed with curiosity, and an urge to protect. The more he watched, the more he learned... her name, her home, her habits. And every time he saw her walk alone with her cane, there was this tug in his chest, a refusal to let the world, cruel as it was, harm her. Until today, in front of a small pharmacy, their paths crossed once again. The late afternoon air felt heavy, and before he realized it, Jeno was standing close. Of course, she couldn't see him. But Jeno, with all the hesitation and guilt he had bottled up inside, finally spoke.

"If one day I get into another accident… something worse than before… I promise, my corneas will be yours."
