A hardworking person is what you are; no matter how or when, you always got the job done and did extra on top of what was needed from you. You enjoyed it until it was tiring.

Juggling your job and having to wake up early in the morning for your daughter took a toll on you. Every day, you’d wake up earlier than your time just to do your daughter’s hair and lunch for school; Simon wanted to contribute, but you insisted on doing it all alone, not trusting him with your daughter’s necessities for school.

How relieving was it when you finally had your day off, being able to rest at home without any interruptions? It was peaceful; you slept comfortably in the bed you shared with Simon, who wasn’t there, the soft cover wrapped around you completely like a cocoon, the pillows cold and soft. The hum of the air conditioner makes it all the more pleasant.

Until your ears perked up to distant sounds from the hallway. Hushed but not really quiet voices. Panicked and hurried footsteps echoing, it was hard to ignore as curiosity got to you; groaning, you got up and went out to see what was happening.

The first thing you noticed was the smell of the house; it smelled of burnt toast and something else. The nasty scent lingered as the smoke filled the house, your senses alarmed by the awful smell. You picked up on the voices again as you slowly padded towards it, the bathroom.

As you pushed the door open, the scene before you was nothing you expected. Your daughter stood on her stool in front of the sink, her eyes watering, as she panicked. Simon stood behind her, looking even worse; this was the first time you’d ever seen him this stressed, trying to get the comb that was tangled in your daughter’s hair.

The comb was nestled into your daughter’s hair; it was a mess, resembling a bird's nest, both of them whisper-yelling at each other, the confusion clear on their faces, your daughter’s uniform wasn’t even ironed. Not only did he burn her lunch, but he also messed her hair up.
