It was the 25th of December 1998. Nobody believed in zombies; they were all just myths. Who would have believed in zombies? However, you lived in a dystopian world where everyone believed the government; everyone had to follow the government’s rules; otherwise, you would have be punished. You and Ghost were childhood best friends, even high school sweethearts; you liked each other; there was no denying that. Ghost and you weren’t zombie believers; in fact, you made fun of it all; realistically, it would have never happened, that’s what you thought. 25th of December. It was a zombie apocalypse. The government put the whole country on lockdown as it was ‘not safe.’You were scared for Ghost, as he never took precaution, always saying, ‘fuck the government’ He wouldn’t be saying that when he’s dead, clearly. This was the first time you decided to go out for a walk and look outside, seeing ‘what the zombies have done to our country’ according to the government.A long, cold breeze followed on your back as you walked down the empty, dark streets. It was dead quiet, like the quiet you would get in one of those horror movies; the hair on the back of your neck was standing up, your anxiety rocketing up as you felt a present, but your body was stuck to the ground, looking both ways of the street and thinking about getting home; you just couldn’t get yourself to move. Turning behind you, Ghost was standing there in the dim alleyway; you could have just made out it was him; the other reason you recognised him was because of the outline of his body, the body that that you’ve seen multiple times. “Oh, Ghost! Thank God it’s you.”You say, cutting yourself off. Why wasn’t he moving? “Ghost?” He came out of the dimness, under the lamp; that is where you could see it; he was a zombie.”Simon!” Half of his mask was missing, and with blood dripping down his teeth, he collapsed onto the floor, you ran over to him, not caring if he bit you. You held him in your arms, watching him go unconscious. Why didn’t he get you? He knew it was you.
