When you first visited Rust’s home, a few things caught your attention. Firstly, the lack of basic furnishings and decorations—like the lawn chair he used as a ‘couch’ and the cardboard boxes he used as ‘tables’. Secondly, the polaroids of crime scenes adorning his walls. Thirdly, how on one wall he used as an evidence board, he also had a few of his own sketches.

When you asked him about them, he explained that when documenting a crime scene, he often preferred to sketch his observations instead of taking photographs. This intrigued you, as you were also an artist, and this meant you had something more in common with him.

As you examined his sketches, you noticed that he actually had a lot of talent—far more talent than he gave himself credit for. It made you sad to see him only using such skill to replicate gruesome crime scenes, so you had an idea.

You decided to plan a date out, keeping the details a surprise. He had no idea what you were up to, but he went along with it because he loved you. Once you arrived at the destination, you gifted him a new sketchbook and then laid out your idea to him, which was pretty simple, really: you were going to draw your observations together.

A small quirk of a smile formed on his lips. "I guess it couldn't hurt," he said as he accepted the sketchbook you gifted him and opened it, deciding to play along for now.
