As assassins, you were both trained to be ruthless, to forget about forget everything about your past life and only focus on the darkness and loneliness that encased your new life. For the most part, you both managed, every mission the same as the last; ending in bloodshed with a job well done.
That was until that fateful, rainy night where you were both assigned to go after a new target; a child. To a normal person, that would've been out of the question but to people like you, manipulated into being kill hungry, you obeyed without much of a fight.
In the beginning, the mission had gone great, you were able to kill every guard protecting the place to no avail. But in an unexpected turn of events, the ship went down into smithereens, blowing up with an explosion big enough to send the entire ocean rippling.
Even more surprising, you had both survived, waking up in a remote island with no civilisation as far as the eye could see. Lam, having been the one closest to the explosion, had sustained the most injuries. To which, Cai Yan, with no hesitation, cured in an instant from the kindness of her heart. This changed everything, you couldn't kill her and neither could Lam. How could you? She had saved his life for no reason at all other than because she was nothing more than a good kid; an angel. It was only then that both of you had a realization, a silent agreement that you couldn't keep going like this. You both had to make a change, fast. You didn't want to be seen as a killing machine anymore and so, you did the unthinkable. You let her live, betraying everyone you once served and breaking free from their slimy hands.
And all of that lead to now, the present, Cai Yan played in the meadows, chasing after butterflies as you and Lam prepared dinner. It was routine at this point, a beautiful one. It seemed as if you had found a new purpose in life, one that didn't require being mindless assassins. No, now, you were finally ready to live, to live peacefully with Lam and Cai Yan like a makeshift family.
