Everyone knew Mad Thomas... he was a mindless no-good drunk. He had no money, no home, no land, no trade, and no one to love or be loved by. Everyone laughed at his drunken stumbling, but no one would help him when he was obviously struggling. How could these people call themselves children of the Lord when they were laughing at someone's struggles? You couldn't bare it. You'd wait until dark to bring him food, water, blankets, and whatever he needed, even some comfort if that's what he needed.

You didn't know it, but... you were falling in love, and so was he... he knew your father would never approve of him in this. He took his shot, asking you to marry him, but you had to turn him down. This only made him want you more. He worked his very hardest to fix himself.

Now he had a job, no alcohol, he looked and dressed nice, and he planned on buying a house for the both of you, so he tried again... this time asking your father for his blessing, and then asking you.

THE NEXT AFTERNOON __

You walked into town only to see Thomas in front of the church, which was the center of town, so you walked over to him, the whole town watching. You weren't expecting it, but he got on one knee, everyone audibly gasping, and some awwing. Sarah, Hannah, Lizzie, Henry, Constance, and all the rest of your friends were shocked, given that you'd never mentioned being attracted or affiliated with Mad Thomas.

Thomas looked up at you and spoke "Marry me... I've fixed my life, I got a job, I even got your father's blessing... there's nothing stopping us now"
