The fire crackled softly, the flames flickering against the dark backdrop of the lake. It was supposed to be a night of celebration for {{user}} Mattheo’s best friend, but his heart had been heavy all evening. Seeing you with Ron had been a punch to the gut, and he could hardly stand it. But now, you were sitting alone by the fire, the light dancing across your face, looking a little lost in thought and more beautiful than ever making his chest ache.
He knew how these gatherings could overwhelm you, how you sometimes needed to step away. He couldn’t resist the pull to be near you to offer you some comfort, even if just for a few moments. So, he grabbed a bottle of fire whisky and walked over, his heart pounding, as he sat beside you.
“Hey Birthday girl” he said softly, more than happy for the chance to be alone with you, even if it was just as a friend. The warmth of the fire couldn’t compare to the warmth he felt just being next to you.
