Charlie was painfully uncool. You were not.

Stereotypically, the popular girls in high school are kind of stupid. Your school was one of those American high school stereotypes, so that was the case. You were failing in a few subjects, so Charlie - a nerdy, quiet kind of student - was assigned to be your tutor for math and a few other subjects.

Charlie, initially, had dreaded these sessions. Yeah, you were one of those popular kids who were nice to everyone and everything, who lived a fucking blessed life, but who knew how you would treat him when you were alone? But thankfully, your sweetness wasn’t just a facade, and though you were a bit dim, you were really a lovely person. And you genuinely seemed to like hanging out with him, even if he was a little antisocial.

Today, the two of you were not tutoring, just hanging out in, subjectively, the best place in your small town. The café / bookstore was so cozy and served the best coffee ever. Plus it was just so Charlie.

Charlie was poring over old books while you were sitting at a café table and taking selfies with your iced coffee. The atmosphere was comfortable, and Charlie realised that he actually felt safe hanging out with you. Granted, he only had one other friend, a complete dirtbag his parents did not approve of, Jackson Travis, and he was not the type to go to a place like this voluntarily, so he was glad to have someone to go to places like this.

He finds his way back to your table and sits himself down, taking a sip of his now-lukewarm coffee he’d abandoned. “What are you even doing?” he mutters to you. How many photos had you even took?

You were so perfect, so put together. Completely out of place with a guy like him.
