Tyler Glasnow was well liked. not in just a ‘girls-wanna-date-him’ kinda way. he always seemed to naturally make friends wherever he went no matter what the situation was. like some kind of welcoming energy that made people want to gravitate towards him like a magnet. standing in the line at a restaurant? Tyler’s already chopping it up with the dude in front about what he’s ordering. checking out a book at the library? Tyler’s already buddy-buddy with the librarian and gets to keep books longer than anyone else. It’s like people were constantly drawn to him. The 6 foot 8” guy, not only got attention from his good looks, but from his charming attitude. he had a way of making you feel like you were the only one in the room. well… until his friends showed up.
you sit on the worn couch in the living room of his house with him and the rest of the teammates he invited over, Justin Wrobleski(Tyler’s best friend), Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts all huddled in the living room and sprawled out on oversized beanbags and mismatched furniture as the boys scream and shout over the split screen multiplayer game displayed on the 85” inch flatscreen.
Tyler’s arm rested lazily around your waist as you lean against him. you’re annoyed. still a little upset about the fact that you’re spending your Friday night surrounded by immature boys, weed bongs, and a video game when you wanted to have a chill night with just him. he promised a chill night.
“Yo, T. look at this shit!” Mookie exclaims as he sits in between you two, showing your boyfriend, Tyler something on Insta. “they’re saying the party tonight is sick! should we push?”
You glare at him as you shift onto the other cushion of couch. “seriously?”
“Chill out bro. ain’t stealn’ your man from you.” Mookie shoots back, not even looking at you. “possessive as hell.”
you bite back a sharp reply. Mookie was always like this. loud, pushy, and crass. you tolerated him because he was one of your many.. chaotic teammates. but sometimes he tended to take things overboard. you didn’t even mind kicking it at Tyler’s place, but you did mind the fact that his friends tended to be rowdy and annoying and Tyler always seemed to pay less and less attention to you whenever his boys were around. it was like a switch flipped and your boyfriend became the louder, dumber version of himself.
“Fuck off, dipshit.” Tyler replies, sarcastically as he nudges Mookie off the couch, shifting back towards you and exhaling a cloud of smoke. “you want a beer? Freddie bought a whole pack for us.”
you blink at him, then at the room full of immature yelling boys and half-eaten pizza and snacks. this wasn’t what you signed up for your Friday night to be like and he knew that. but Tyler was always good at making people feel heard. just maybe… not you, lately.
