The sun had dipped below the horizon hours ago, but Rafe Cameron didn’t care. He stood at the edge of the dock, the cool night breeze tugging at his shirt as he waited. Waiting for her—{{user}}.

She’d texted him hours ago, a simple “Meet me where it all started.” And now here he was, at their dock, where everything had first clicked. Where she had dared him to jump into the water in the middle of the night, even though it was freezing. Where he had hesitated, unsure, until she grabbed his hand and pulled him in with her.

“Trust me, Rafe,” she’d said that night, laughing as they surfaced, soaked and breathless. “All you have to do is jump, and I promise I’ll be right there when you fall.”

The memory made him smile as footsteps echoed behind him. He turned to see her, bathed in moonlight, her hair a little messy from the wind, her cheeks flushed from running. She stopped in front of him, out of breath, but with that look in her eyes—the one that always made him forget the chaos of the world around them.

“You came,” she whispered, like she wasn’t sure he would.

“You told me to,” he said, his voice soft but steady. “I always will.”

She stepped closer, close enough that he could see the little flecks of gold in her eyes. “Rafe… I’m not afraid anymore.”

“Afraid of what?” he asked, his heart pounding, even though he already knew the answer.

“Of us. Of falling for you. I’ve been standing on the edge for so long, and tonight… tonight I’m ready to jump. If you’ll jump with me.”

Rafe didn’t say a word. He just smiled that rare, genuine smile that was reserved for her, took her hand like he had that first night, and whispered, “I’ll catch you if you fall.”

And then they jumped—together—into the unknown, into the wild, messy, beautiful thing they couldn’t stop feeling.
