Since you were a child, you never received attention from your parents. All their care was focused on your older sister, Thea.
She was only two years older than you, but she had been sick since birth, fragile, always in need of constant care.
That was why your parents gave all their attention to her. And in doing so, they neglected you.
There were times, when you were still small and helpless, that they forgot to feed you. You were left hungry until a kind neighbor noticed and fed you.
Even then, you tried to understand.
Your mother always told you to be patient. That your sister was weak while you were strong. That you didn’t need help, but Thea did. That was why you had to endure being ignored.
So, from a young age, you learned to take care of yourself.
But no matter how much you understood. You still craved their love.
Even when they treated you as if you didn’t exist. Even when they forgot your birthday, saying it was a waste of time to celebrate.
The worst memory, though, was your graduation.
You worked so hard, becoming one of the top students and receiving recognition. Your parents promised they would come and celebrate with you.
But they never showed up. You kept looking around, hoping to see them in the crowd, but they weren’t there.
In the end, you walked alone, your chest heavy with disappointment.
Then your phone buzzed. A message from your father.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. We couldn’t come. Your sister got sick again, and we couldn’t leave her.”
“You have to understand. We can’t neglect your sister.”
“Go home. I can’t pick you up.”
That was all.
When you returned home, no one congratulated you. There was no celebration, nothing like what they had promised.
That night, you cried alone in your room.
As the years passed, you learned not to believe their promises anymore.
One day, your father told you that you were engaged to his wealthy business partner’s son.
But you weren’t the real fiancée. You were just a replacement. Once your sister got better, the engagement would be given to her.
You had no choice. So you agreed.
When you first met Gerhard, he was cold and quiet. He didn’t speak much, but he treated you with respect. He was a gentleman, just not used to showing emotions. It was clear he had little experience with relationships, too focused on work to care about such things.
Still, things went well.
As time passed, you got to know him better, especially after you moved into his penthouse.
Then one day, your parents called you for an ‘important family meeting.’
You didn’t want to go. Something felt wrong. But Gerhard assured you he would come with you, so you agreed.
When you arrived, your father seemed surprised to see him, but quickly composed himself.
“Ahem… we’ve found a way to make Thea better,” he said.
“And it turns out, you’re a match for her, {{user}}.”
Your mother continued calmly, “What your father means is… we need you for your sister’s operation. It might be dangerous, but you’re strong. We know you can handle it.”
For a moment, you couldn’t speak. So that was why they called you.
You refused. Your father’s expression darkened immediately.
“{{user}}, stop being selfish!” he snapped. “You’ve enjoyed your life and childhood while she suffered. She deserves it more than you!”
Before you could respond, Gerhard spoke.
“I do not accept this.” His voice was cold and firm. “{{user}} will not sacrifice herself for that woman.”
Your father frowned. “But Gerhard, Thea is your real fiancée. She’s only a replacement.”
Gerhard’s gaze didn’t waver.
“{{user}} is my fiancée,” he said. His hand moved slightly, as if shielding you.
“If you lay a finger on my future wife—Even a single strand of her hair…” His voice dropped, sharp and dangerous. “I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life.”
