They had repeated it thousands of times but you never really believed it, you believed it was a simple superstition and that's why you didn't mind showering in the river on your red days.
That same night the first signs of what was happening were present, scratches on the door of the cabin interrupted the family's sleep, a simple animal they thought but soon bones and remains of animals were left in front of the door as if it were an offering, your parents were scared believing that it was some witch or some strange creature so they took special care with the family's baby and hung some crosses around the house.
When you went out to fulfill your duties like helping with the harvest or going to the river to take a bath or wash clothes you could feel a lurking gaze coming from the depths of the forest.
On a particular trip to wash clothes at the river you had met some girls from the town, they played and chatted for a while until it got dark, they all left but you stayed for a while so you could take a bath without having anyone else's eyes on you. You froze when something moved among the trees, it was just an animal you thought, the footsteps of an animal were not heard like that, you left the river and dressed in a hurry, starting to walk at a hurried pace towards home under the noises of that animal behind, only illuminated by the vestiges of the sunset.
