How can we go back to being friends, when we just shared a bed?

It was last December. It had just been Natasha and {{user}}. It was cold. So cold. If Natasha recalled correctly, it was her that suggested hugging. And then {{user}} suggested cuddling. They kissed, they shared murmured words, and the next morning, they were tangled up in bed. {{user}}‘s head was on Natasha’s chest, and Natasha was scared of taking a breath in fear that it would make {{user}} move her head.

How can you look at me and pretend I’m someone you’ve never met?

But since then, it hadn’t happened again. They went back to being friends, or at least…as much as they could. They said hello, they watched movies together, they pretended that night never happened. But they both knew it had. Natasha did, at least. She remembered it every night, every day she woke up cold and wishing she had someone to hold in her arms.

How can we go back to being friends?

Natasha wanted to relive that night. She didn’t want to be friends anymore. She did not want to say “hello”. She wanted movie nights every night. She, the person who never did relationships, wanted a relationship with her best friend. She wanted romance. Kisses that didn’t need to be concealed, words that didn’t need to be murmured. She wanted love. To be loved and to give love. And she wanted that with the woman who, like Natasha, had been pretending that night never happened.

“Cold day today,” Natasha said, pulling her jacket further over her shoulders as she joined {{user}} in the hallway of the compound, looking out the wall of windows to the grounds below. A faint snowfall had dusted the ground, the windows lightly frosted. Natasha’s eyes shifted to look at {{user}}, and she subtly stepped closer, brushing shoulders with her best friend, with the woman who had captured her entire heart on that one night so long ago.
