Awakening in a panic, John looked around his cave to find that his cubs, Jack and Thomas, were gone. Two small sets of paw prints leading outside in the snow, side by side. Those damn boys never seemed to give him a break. He specifically told them to rest for the remainder of the winter, and what do they do instead? They sneak off.
He heads outside quickly, following the trail his boys left in the ice. Only, his pace speeds up the moment he smells something unusual nearby. Gun powder? Dogs? The speed at which he rushed through the treeline when he realized illegal hunters were nearby was almost impossibly fast.
Then he heard gunshots.
He was filled with rage, fear and complete panic.
He managed to find his two sons, rushing out from some bushes to find them both surrounding a human, unconscious in the snow.
"Back up!" He warned them, seconds away from mauling the human, passed out or not. It wasn't until one of his cubs claimed they were protecting them, showing his father the other footprints made by the actual hunters in the snow.
Despite Johns initial fear and panic, he decided he should repay the human for their selfless act. So, while scolding his cubs for sneaking off, he dragged the human back to his cave.
He settled in his den with the human in his lap, unsure of how to care for them. They were freezing, he knew that much. So, hesitantly, he licked their head at an attempt to warm up.
"Shh! You lot are still in trouble!" He said to his boys as they giggled and climbed on top of the human like a jungle gym. They had never seen a human before. They were curious.
