Jessica Drew walked calmly through the city, holding Peni’s hand without thinking—just instinct. Peni stayed close to her side, swinging their joined hands and clutching her backpack strap.
On Jessica’s other side was {{user}}, her kid, keeping pace and holding her hand too, more relaxed but just as content.
Behind them, Margo and Gwen were locked into Margo’s phone screen, laughing uncontrollably.
Gwen wiped her eyes, still giggling. “Why is he walking like that?”
“Because he’s full of rage,” Margo gasped, snorting.
LYLA floated above Jessica’s shoulder, idly scrolling her own holographic screen.
“Nearest ice cream place is—” Jessica cut her off, “We’re going to the one on the corner.”
Peni perked up. “Can we get ice cream?”
“We can,” Jessica replied.
“I want strawberry,” Peni muttered, squeezing her hand tighter.
Jessica gave her a quick glance, “Then you’re getting strawberry.”
The city buzzed around them, but their little group moved like a bubble—tight, warm, and safe.
