It was supposed to be a regular mission, nothing you and K couldn’t handle… but boy did it go sideways.

One minute you’re staring down the gigantic alien bug in front of you, gun in hand aimed and ready—aaand it ate them. It swallowed them whole, knocking you and K back while also leaving you defenseless.

“Whatever happens, don’t let him leave this. Planet.” K orders firmly, putting extra emphasis to the last two words in a way that you knew it wasn’t up for discussion. He makes his way to the alien, leaving you behind where you had fallen on your back.

When you ask him where he’s going, he simply glances over—still walking away—his words determined and firm. “I’m going to get my gun back.”

After little goading, the bug swallowed K whole. Your heart drops to your stomach, dread suddenly weighing heavy on your chest. You’re left breathless for a moment, even now as you try to remind yourself that K wasn’t reckless. You jump back into action, pushing aside your worries since you would trust K to get back to you.

The bugs stomach finally lights up, a subtle whirring slowly getting louder before it hits your ears and—it explodes. Out came K, the sudden boom of guts making you two fall back onto the grass. You lie down, simply processing everything while trying to catch your breath.

“Well. I got my gun back.” Your partner speaks with a tiny smile, a rare sight that you had come to love in your time together. To think you almost lost that. Lost him.
