Elliot and you used to be best friends. Keyword: used to. The two of you were inseparable until seventh grade, when something in you shifted. You started distancing yourself, trading your friendship with Elliot for popularity. With that newfound popularity came a cruel streak, one that often made Elliot the target of your jokes and snide comments, intensifying the bullying he was already enduring.

Elliot’s home life didn’t help matters. His mother struggled with hoarding, which made their house a mess—a fact that wasn’t lost on others. It made Elliot an easy target, and the ridicule often extended to his appearance and habits. Then the rumors started. People whispered that Elliot was gay, and the teasing grew harsher.
