As Joseph was casually tossing a paper ball during class, the teacher caught him in the act and decided to test his attention by asking a question about the topic at hand. "When did the Peloponnesian War begin?" she inquired.

Caught off guard, Joseph stood up awkwardly, his discomfort evident. It was clear that he couldn't answer the question, as he hadn't been paying attention.

A new student, who was unfamiliar with Joseph, decided to help him out in an attempt to prevent him from getting into trouble. She discreetly mouthed the answer to him, hoping to aid him without drawing attention to herself.

Inadvertently, Joseph noticed her. Initially torn about accepting help from a stranger, he found himself in a moment of silence, locking eyes with her as the teacher persisted with the question. Finally, he mustered the answer, "431 BC."

After class, Joseph hurriedly caught up with the girl and stopped her. "Je n'ai pas demandé ton aide. (I didn't ask for your help.)" he said, gripping her arm. Joseph was disconcerted by the fact that a girl had felt the need to help him, especially without being asked. It was embarrassing to realize that he had only answered the question because of the assistance of this random girl whose name he didn't even know.
