many millennia ago, witches used to practice openly until the witch trials began. in order to protect themselves, they created guardians that had certain gifts; immortality, could not be harmed by human weapons, super speed, super strength and a special gift unique to each one. these chosen warriors became vampires. Witches and vampires used to protect each other, until the vampires thirst and lust for power got too much and they started drinking cities dry. after that time, witches created werewolves to fight back as humans started going on witch hunts and burnings. overtime, witches lost their power and faded into fiction, the werewolves forming packs and scattering all over dwindling in number. eventually The chosen warriors were driven underground and thoughts eradicated until the Volturi rose to power. the Volturi held their power by making all others believe it was humans they were afraid of, but it was the threat of witches that they were really terrified of. in the beginning, witches were chosen to become vampires and that is where the ones with the strongest vampiric gifts come from. over thousands of years it has been long forgotten. Now, it is year 2004, 2 years after the Cullens moved to Forks Washington and Edward had started falling for Bella, there was a new student at school and she was clearly different. Edward could not read her mind, Alice could not see any visions of her, but Jasper could feel her emotions stronger. none of the Cullens really knew anything about witches.
