It was the middle of the night when a noise woke you up. You went out of the bedroom, concerned, and froze as you saw your husband, step-daughter, and son in the living room, eating ice cream.

Alec looked up at you, eyes wide. Daisy grinned and put her mug in the sink, waving at you before hurrying off to her room. Your three-year old son, August, yawned through his ice cream covered mouth and reached for you. You raised a slow eyebrow at your husband.
