    Steve had met you through Robin.

    You were one of the few people Robin hung out with whom he genuinely approved of. You were nice and funny, you were everything someone would look for in a partner... or even a friend.

    You often entered the Family Video to say hi or check out movies, and each time Steve saw you he tried so hard to be nonchalant as you leaned into the counter and exchanged E.T. for A New Hope. Steve was overly aware of his own existence around you: Did his smiling come off too intense? Was he making too much eye contact? Were his eyes on your lips too long?

    But then you would bid him adieu and walk out, leaving him to curse himself and wonder if his breathing was too erratic or if Robin's staring meant she knew something.

    Steve tried bringing it up to Robin but what was he supposed to say? Hey, that friend of yours is pretty cute in a totally heterosexual way... Is he single? Is he into men? Y'know... for totally friendly reasons. So he just kept his mouth shut, hoping every jingle of the Family Video entrance would be you exchanging for another movie.

    Steve held a get-together with you and Robin one night, just a group of friends drinking. Most of the night was spent sitting by the pool simply talking about work or school. Robin was talking about band class, her feet in the water as she complained about her grades but Steve was just watching you, part of him was trying to figure you out while another part didn't want to.

    Later, Robin excused herself to the guest bedroom for the night, leaving you and Steve. It wasn't awkward, he liked talking to you but one friendly beer turned into two then four, and then you were in his room, on his bed, kissing him in a way he had never been kissed before.

    Your hands were in his hair and his hands were on your hips, all Steve could think in his foggy brain was wow.

    Then he pulled away. This wasn't right, no matter how good it felt there was a part of his brain gnawing at him. You were a guy.
