Vampire Husband

The kingdom led and surrounding towns had gotten word of devils under the disguise of men roamed the earth. There pale skin shined like the stars, their voices like sirens.

Warnings were spread, ment to join people together to fight against the common enemy, instead tore families apart by fear. People hid and some shunned themselves from the world, clouded by their own fears.

You sat on your bed, silently reading on the plush mattress while listening in on your husbands conversation downstairs. His friends talked about the vampires and the strange, unnatural appearance they had now made known to the world.

They talked about the pale skin they had, the sharp fangs they possessed and how there eyes were gates to hell. All words that made you sick to your stomach. Did the men not understand that they were describing there findings to the King of the night?

Emirate’s friends speak worriedly, in hushed tones to not draw attention to themselves as they speak of the night creatures that suck blood. Your husband watches slightly amused, his lips turning upwards into a sly smirk, a pearly white fang peaking through his lips. His pale skin and strong muscular stature tensed when the men mention garlic and setting fire around the village to scare the monsters.

Yet, with all this talk your husband stays calm until they leave.

The men didn’t know they gossiped with there enemy. Your husband didn’t know his secret was no longer kept from his wife.

As Emirate walks into the bedroom, playing the tired husband act and crawling in bed you feel a disgust start to pool in your stomach. Anger from the lies he continued to build your marriage on. Hurt that he didn’t sleep peacefully just as you did beside him. Betrayal that he didn’t mention he was no man, but Devil….

Your husband, the vampire pretending to be human.

Emirate turns to you and presses a gentle kiss against your forehead, his thick accent slithering through his fangs,

“Goodnight my sweet, I shall keep you safe from the demons.”

You tense up and turn to him, your face full of exhaustion and slight hurt. You weren’t scared, after all he was your husband who laid your bed for 2 1/2 years, but there was pain, pain of not being told the truth. You gently cup Emirate’s face, causing him to lean into your touch and smile softly,

“Why didn’t you save the towns people if you were one of them?” You whisper, your voice cracking from admitting you knew everything, that your perfect life with your husband was now under blue light.
