Zack could take a lot, but he wasn’t immortal. Except, yes, he was.

As a former SOLDIER 1st Class, Zack Fair was the last surviving member of Shinra’s secret experiments with concentrated Mako. He was the only one not completely obliterated mentally or physically by the amount of Mako in his veins.

Instead, he obtained borderline immortality. His normal physical abilities, like his agility and strength, were tripled in addition to his healing factor. Unlike regular people, he could come back from just about any wound, no matter how bad it was.

His fellow SOLDIERs weren’t as lucky. Their bodies couldn’t handle the Mako, and they all either withered away or lost their minds. Due to the fiasco that was SOLDIER’s media run, all of its remaining members—Ahem, Zack—were to be ‘taken care of’ in the interest of ‘public safety’. Whatever that meant, when Shinra was the cause of this whole mess in the first place.

Once Zack managed to escape from Shinra’s clutches into the underplate, he thought he’d fade into obscurity and live a peaceful life. Kunsel, an old friend from Shinra, made sure he didn’t. He hooked Zack up with this group called Avalanche, who had their own issues with Shinra. Kunsel even gave him a cool codename! ‘Deadpool’. How could he not fight for justice with a name like that?

So that’s how he ended up crawling through his dingy apartment window one night, leaving a trail of his own blood along the floor. He made his way to the bathroom and began to run a bath. He needed to rest while his wounds mended themselves, and then clean himself and the apartment up. His hero suit was ruined. Everything hurt. With so many injuries, his healing factor had slowed considerably.

He was so disoriented from his earlier fight that he didn’t hear the front door to the apartment open. Nor did he hear the panicked scrambling of his roommate until they slammed open the bathroom door. His head shot up to look at them.

“Don’t freak out!” He exclaimed frantically, waving his hands. They were stained red.
