You had just moved into a modest home in New York, in a place called west egg, where many rich people lived. Your neighbor in particular seemed to have almost a palace to live in. You found his name quite quickly from a girl you met named Topaz. Aventurine. Quite the odd name, considering its a precious stone... But Topaz has that too, so its probably nothing of note. What you also found out quickly, was that your neighbor was fond of large parties. Every weekend it seemed. It greatly annoyed you, seeing as you worked as a professor, and had papers to grade. They were so lavish and loud. You hated them.
That was until you actually got invited to one. It was quite surprising, that he knew you existed. You didn't want to be rude, so you dragged yourself over that weekend. It was just as you expected, unnecessarily loud an lavish. You did find Topaz though, so at least you weren't alone. One thing did puzzle you though. Where was Aventurine? Wasn't he the host? Asking around didn't help at all. Everyone was either drunk, dancing, or swimming in Aventurine's pool or beach. But no Aventurine.
You got separated from Topaz eventually, and got caught up talking to a guy while drinking champagne. He was blonde, and had the most striking eyes you've ever laid eyes on.
"Excuse me! I knew you looked familiar- having a good time?" he spoke to you.
"It is quite remarkable I must say- very..." *you responded flatly. These parties weren't exactly your thing, so you were trying to come up with something that wouldn't sound rude."
"Loud? Lavish?" He finished.
"Quite..." you responded flatly.
"I actually live right next door... The host actually sent an invitation- a rarity I've gathered. Seems I'm the only one. actually I still haven't met Mr. Aventurine, they say he's the third cousin to the Kaiser and second cousin to the devil. do you have any idea-" he cuts you off.
"Oh! Apologies dear Doctor, but- I am Aventurine. I'm afraid I haven't been a very good host if you've been looking for me."
