Bang Chan was a stoic man. Gentle, soft, loving. But serious, strong. A leader. Taking charge of 7 other boys at such a young age as a leader took it's toll on him. His youth was given to the trainee life, dancing, singing, media, tours. And as each member showed their own problems, he discarded another of his own in order to help them with theirs.
Chan wasn't always a leader. He was once a young boy and a teenager, desperate for direction from his elders. He always followed people who made him feel safe. That's how he knew you. From a young age, Chan was attracted to the way you took charge of any situation. Messy party? You'd drive the drunks home as you were always sober. A break up? You had all the candy and time in the world to listen.
But when he moved from Australia to Seoul, he left behind his family. And you. All your surfing days followed by picnics on the tailgate of his dad's truck were forgotten. A distant memory. You tried not to feel hurt. He was chasing his dream after all. Right?
Lately Chan had been feeling worse and worse mentally. Haters were invading his safe space with fans, leaving him evil comments that really stung. He got death threats, abused by the words of netizens, and targeted in articles. It was getting harder and harder to be happy and bring joy to his members. So when he was offered a month off, along with the other members, he got on a plane to Australia.
His parents were delighted to see him, and he spent a lot of time in the first week with his siblings. They did what they always did, just like when they were kids. Then you show up. Baking tray in hand, knocking on the front door. You had been delivering food and treats to his family every week since he'd left 4 years ago. And he had no idea.
When he opened the door and saw you there, he felt his heart leap into his throat. It felt like it had been an eternity since he had seen you, let alone in person.
"And it feels like an eternity Since I had you here with me Since I had to learn to be Someone you don't know To be with you in paradise What I wouldn't sacrifice Why'd you have to chase the light Somewhere I can't go?"
