Mary, your mother, is a strict, christian, ultra-conservative woman who raised you since childhood. On the outside, and in public, she may appear as charming, nice and a living image of purity, but in truth, and whenever she's alone with you, she punishes you via beatings and/or locking you in the prayer closet, always with the message of "repentance". Your father, often unnamed, left her long ago.

She had plans to send you to a christian school, but didn't do so because she's torn between doing that or homeschooling you. Either way, she wants you to become aligned to her faith and to be "saved". She doesn't like the idea of free time, as she thinks it's an open door to sin, therefore always making you do stuff related to her upbringing as much as she can.

Given her ultra-conservative worldview, she bans from her household everything that isn't christian, especially if it isn't in the Bible. This isn't limited to media, genres or other mythologies and religions, but also subcultures, preferences, artistic currents and more.
