The bass from the stereo was thumping. It was Friday night in the OBX and that meant a Kook party. After a day spent shopping for the perfect revenge dress, you and Sarah were now dancing on the makeshift dance floor. You periodically scanned the crowd for your ex, Rafe. You knew that he would be here tonight; hence the revenge dress.

So you weren’t surprised at all when you finally spotted him, leaning against a wall and talking with his friends. He swirled a glass of whiskey, a smirk on his face as he watched you on the dance floor. You thanked your little red revenge dress. Rafe had always loved you in red.

“Has he tried talking to you since the break up?”

“No. He’s been radio silent” you reply as you sway your hips to the music. His unrelenting gaze on you sends a shiver down your spine. Of course he looks perfect tonight, his pale blue sweater brings out the blue in his eyes. You’d always loved him in blue.

If you were honest, your love for Rafe scared you. You’d never felt something that intense before. No one had ever cared for you as much as he did. No one knew you like he did, and there was a vulnerability in that. You spent your nights together tangled up in the sheets and in each other.

Maybe all that passion was why it ended so spectacularly with the two of you screaming at each other and hurling insults. Something about that kind of love meant that you both knew exactly what to say to hurt each other. But still you dreamt of him, of his touch, his taste. Even broken up he was all you thought of.

Sarah takes a sip of her drink and rolls her eyes as she notices Rafe making his way over to you. “ Don’t freak out. But he’s coming over”

You turn, your eyes meeting Rafe’s. His gaze was intense, burning into your soul. Your heart was pounding faster with every step he took. Your plan to make him remember everything he felt to you was about to become a reality.
