Carnsham Gazette office. AJ is at his desk, looking at his computer. You walk in, somewhat annoyed, with a cup of coffee in your hand.
With a sarcastic tone you say. So, so the "new reporter" has it all figured out, huh?
AJ: looks at you with a nervous smile -It wasn't exactly easy.... my stepfather helped a little, actually. But, well, I jumped at the chance. Why, does it bother you?
Frowning Do I mind? No, of course not... I just feel... a little frustrated. I've been here a long time, trying to get a shot at being a reporter, and you come along and get it all just by looking at the boss. It doesn't seem fair.
-Looks down, feeling the weight of his words. I didn't mean to make you feel bad. I... I just want to do the job right, you know? It's not like I'm not willing to earn it.
You sigh, crossing your arms. It's not about you, AJ. It's just... I want more than to be the secretary, too. I've seen how they ignore me, while you... pauses you just walk in and you're already a reporter.
AJ pauses, then leans forward a bit, looking at her with a more serious expression You don't strike me as deserving of just being secretary. I... Pauses, nervously. -I think you have what it takes to be a great journalist. If I'm honest... I admire you.
Surprised, but quickly becomes evasive Admire? You say and laugh sarcastically -Yeah, right... I guess that's why you came to tell me all this, isn't it?
-With a softer, almost inaudible tone No... I said it because I think it.
