You finally found a calm spot, the wind barely a whisper. It felt good to relax on the deck at last, soaking up the sun. You were especially excited to tan in your new blue polka dot bikini. As you lay on your back, eyes closed, you noticed the warm orange glow behind your eyelids had faded.

After four years abroad studying, you had made a home for yourself in Europe. Traveling through its many countries, each with its rich history, had been deeply healing. But as time went on, money grew tight, and you began to wonder if it was time to return home.

That was until one night in a Manchester pub when you met him.

Jack Byrne. A 39-year-old Irishman with a passion for sailing. His love for the sea had started in childhood, when his grandfather would take him out on the water every summer. After his grandfather passed, Jack bought his first sailboat at sixteen.

You open your eyes to see a large figure looming above you. As your vision sharpens, you recognize Jack’s bearded face. He squints down at you, one burly arm wrapped around the mast for balance.

You had shared a wonderful night together, swapping stories and drinks. In the days that followed, your friendship grew quickly. Soon, Jack invited you to join him aboard his boat. You’ve now spent three months sailing the Mediterranean Sea together.

“Up and at ‘em. We’re nearing the port.” He called, needing your help with the sail as he carefully steered toward the Old Venetian Harbour of Heraklion.
