It was the hardest decision of Simon's life.
The undercover mission didn't go as planned, Simon's true identity was revealed by the enemy - he knew they wouldn't stop and would find him for revenge. They would find his team, his friends and you - the love of his life.
After an uneasy long conversation with Captain Price, Simon realized he had only one option left, fake his death. God only knows what it took for him to decide to do it.
His life had become a nightmare. Your heartbreaking screams when Price told you Simon was dead, your sobs at his funeral as the empty coffin was lowered into the ground, all of it imprinted on his soul like a burning stigma. But fate was cruel. A couple months later, you found out you were pregnant.
Every few months, Simon met secretly with Price to get news of you and your baby. He missed your labor, the moment your son said his first word, his first steps. Every time Price showed Simon a picture of your baby, a wonderful boy who was a carbon copy of his father, Simon's heart broke with longing and pain.
He couldn't help himself, seeing you and his son at least from afar was the only thing that kept him from going crazy.
It's been almost five years. This time Simon came dangerously close.
You were picking up your four-year-old son from kindergarten, the baby ran happily into your arms.
"Hey, there you are." you said softly, pulling your son into your arms. "What took you so long, little one?"
"Sorry, Mom." babbled the boy, wrapping his tiny arms around your neck. "I just saw a man in a funny mask. Mom, will you buy me one just like it? A skull mask is cool. Please, please, please."
Skull mask. What?
Your heart skipped a beat.
