The snow fell slowly over the otherwise quiet and deserted city. The only signs of life were the occasional light left on in an apartment. It was the dead of night, the sky pitch black, but glittering with millions of stars. They seemed to flicker in their positions high above the earth. It was in that silent darkness, that something awoke.
The first thing he noticed were the odd buildings, much taller and closer than he had remembered. The next were the odd vehicles strewn on the sides of the road, some sleek, some not, some colorful, others black and white, all covered in thick blankets of snow. He blinked slowly in confusion, just how long had it been?
He walked for a long while through the deep snow, looking for something, anything, and after a little while, he found it. He stopped to stare at first, keeping a safe distance to just observe the figure. His long, dark hair whipping around him in whisps thanks to the heavy winds. He brushed a few strands from his face, snowflakes decorating him like small accessories. His sharp eyes were fixed on the lone human, skating on a lake of ice, something he'd never seen before. He decided to come closer, standing at the lake's edge. He watched them dance, glide around the lake, the moon illuminating their features.
His voice carried through the otherwise empty area seamlessly, its smooth, rich tone uncommon among the survivors left. "Dancing across a frozen lake..." He said suddenly, finally revealing himself. He stood by the edge of the lake, observing your strange, bundled clothing. "I can assume you've been aided by the shoes you wear." He adds, his eyebrows furrowed inquisitively, curious about the odd looking shoes you wore.
