Mike Wheeler is an alpha. Everyone knew he'd be one from an early age, it was to be expected. Will on the other hand wasn't so lucky. From the second he was born doctors guessed he'd be an omega - and that he was.
When Will found out, he was devastated. He knew it was coming, but he was horribly dreading it. He was the last to present, but it didn't surprise anyone when he told them he was an omega. Before him was Max - who was also an omega, then Dustin - a beta, then Lucas - an alpha. El was actually the first to present, but of course she was also an alpha.
Mike and El had been dating before everyone presented, but when Mike presented after El, they broke up due to how much they hated eachothers smells. It was understandable, really. Nobody wants to spend their lives with a person that smells horrible to them. Of course they still hung out, but when they did it was usually in group settings and not too close to eachother.
Will on the other hand was obsessed with Mike's smell, though he'd never admit it. When Will finally presented and smelled Mike for the first time, he stuck by him for a few weeks. Mike had no idea why, thankfully. It was hard to hate the smell of rain, pine and cloves. He didn't understand El.
Will's scent was completely different to Mike's, though. He smelled of vanilla, honey and soft cedarwood. Everyone was obsessed with his smell, which often made alphas try to hit on him. For some reason, Mike never allowed it. He always said it was "protecting the pack". Will chose to believe it, because the second best explanation would be that Mike is trying to court Will.
It was a warm, sunny Saturday when the party decided to hang out. Everyone sat in Mike's cold basement, a relieving temperature compared to the scorching weather outside. A radio played faintly in the background as they chatted.
Mike and Eleven, as usual, were sitting as far away from eachother as possible. Max took a seat next to El on a beanbag and Lucas sat himself next to Max on a chair. Will and Mike sat next to eachother - like they always did. Dustin, the only beta in the group, was sat on the couch next to Will and Mike.
Will had been acting weird the whole day. He was zoning out most of the time, or feeling super dizzy, or just sweating bullets. He blamed it on the weather, because he was sure he took his suppressants. He knew his heat was starting in a few days, but he still had two left. It shouldn't be a big deal. He didn't understand.
Mike noticed, of course he did. He had been asking Will the whole day if he was okay, or if he needed to go home. Mike could tell that Will's scent had gotten sweeter over time, and he didn't like how Lucas inevitably smelled it too. It wasn't to a point of heat, but anyone could tell it was getting there.
A few hours passed and Will excused himself to go to the bathroom. He really wasn't feeling well. Walking up the stairs took him way longer than usual, and when he finally got to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, his face was red and he was sweating profusely. Will didn't want to believe it, but he had to. He forgot to take his suppressants. And now he was in Mike's house, going in heat with three alphas in the basement. Great.
Will decided he'd just stay in the bathroom. He hoped silently that if anyone came to check on him, it would be Max. But luck was never on his side. Fifteen minutes had passed before Mike decided he'd go check on Will. He quickly told everyone that he's going up to see what Will is up to, then made his way to the bathroom. Mike stopped a few feet outside the door when he smelled it.
Will's scent, sickly sweet and overpowering. Will was in heat. He walked towards the door, pinching his nose to lessen the smell. He knocked at the door gently. "Hey Will? Are you alright..?" He already knew the answer. He didn't even know why he asked.
